Dedicated and high quality service are being provided in `Sinhgad` hostel's quarantine centers

Pune - Sinhgad Institutes, one of the most renowned educational conglomerates headquartered at Pune was at the forefront in providing hostels to the district administration to be used as quarantine centers.

Considering the grave situation that was evolving, the management of Sinhgad Institutes came forward and indicated their willingness and readiness to hand over the desired hostels from their campuses to the district administration.

Besides allotting hostels to be used and managed by the District Administration as per procedures laid down by the Government, Sinhgad Institutes also provides medical care to coronavirus patients from their hospital – SKN General Hospital located at Narhe, Pune.

At the very beginning itself, Prof. M.N. Navale, Founder President of Sinhgad Technical Education Society, promptly got arrangements done on a war footing with suitable training and preparedness of the health care team, under renowned doctors of SKN General Hospital to meet the challenge of coronavirus outbreak. In addition to the isolation ward to accommodate and treat 400 to 500 patients, SKN Hospital also has an ICU for the treatment of 50 serious cases of coronavirus.

The team is fully trained and fully equipped with sufficient masks, PPE – personal protective equipment and ventilators needed to effectively combat the challenge of coronavirus cases that are referred to them. The Hospital is well known amongst the people for the charitable care provided to them from inception in the year 2006. The hospital provides all facilities in addition to meals to the inpatient free of cost.

This is a boon especially for the poor and needy who cannot afford proper health care. All departments have updated infrastructure besides the dedicated team of renowned doctors and supporting staff working round the clock to give the best possible medical care at all
times.

Dr. Kiran Shinde, Dy. Dean and HOD ENT is the nodal officer of SKN General Hospital for corona cases. He says that many patients have fully recovered and have been discharged with due compliance to the prescribed norms. Patients’ young and old have been cured irrespective of their age or medical history.

On 1 st May a 70-year-old lady and her family of 5 were completely cured and discharged. The 70-year-old was a patient of heart disease, with a history of stroke, diabetes, and hypertension. The successful treatment and discharge of numerous patients prove that corona can be cured if proper care and treatment is rendered to the patients, notwithstanding their medical history or age factor, says Dr. Kiran Shinde.

Speaking on the quarantine facilities that were handed over to the administration, many of the quarantined persons expressed their utmost satisfaction. The attached video clip clearly indicates how well they were taken care by the administration. A family of eleven were quarantined. They were given full care and discharged, as per norms, after giving them all detailed instructions and with proper documentation. The family expresses their satisfaction in the attached video.

In response to allegations of improper facilities, Jayant Bhosekar, Deputy Commissioner, Pune clarified in a statement to the press that ‘the organization – Sinhgad Institutes, has an RO water purifier plant for the hostels. The water is pure and its’ supply is running smoothly.

Hygiene is maintained and medicines are given to those in need, very systematically. Municipal employees are delivering the items themselves to the citizens. While there are complaints from some, hundreds of citizens are satisfied’.

With reference to complaints, Santosh Tandale, Civic Officer in charge of the Centre at Sinhgad College Girls Hostel at Vadgaon, says ‘most of the patients are asymptomatic and would be discharged in 10 days. The patients did not want to stay here and so they are making excuses.

The garbage they are referring to has not been stacked for days but were food packets from the same morning which were not cleared. We cleaned it in the evening. Some of the patients want to be shifted to Nicmar facility at Balewadi, as some of their relatives are there. But it is full.

Hence, they are raising these issues here. We have arranged for counseling sessions for them.’ The district administration has put in place all possible measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and the medicines to the residents in quarantine.

Considering the dedicated service, the complaints apparently seemed unfounded. The need of the hour is to stay strong and to fight the pandemic together to emerge victorious which will surely happen.
